1.85 to 1, 2.35 to 1, whatever the ratio, this screen does it.
11/03/08 15:58
Projecta have been
making top of the line projection screens for many years, but their
Varivision Electrol is really a smart piece of kit.
Normally when you watch a 1.85 to one movie (16:9) it fills your screen, however when you watch a Cinemascope movie in 2.35 to 1 (which is most modern movies) then you have a huge gap between the projected image and the area that masks the screen. This detracts from the overall movie experience considerably.

With the Projecta Varivision Electrol however, you can adjust the masking black areas so the format is always correct. Because of this masking your perceived contrast is also greatly increased. It come pre-programmed with the usual sizes, but you can also program in any other format you desire which you can then select with the remote control.
The screen material, as you would expect from such a class act, is a high tension high contrast type, bringing you fuller colours and great black levels.
Check out the pictures below to see an example of both 1.85 to 1 and 2.35 to 1 (16:9 and Cinemascope).
It's 16:9.......

now it's Cinemascope!

New Planar 1080P projector with optical lens shift - Double Wow!
10/03/08 16:25
Planar have already shown how they can make
a truly great projector, but the new PD8150 is outstanding.
It features optical lens shift. Those of you who are in the know about companies like Vidikron and Runco, will know that they have a real party trick. When you buy a projector that has an chip resolution of 1920 by 1080 (1080P as you no doubt all getting used to), this is only a measurement of the chip resolution when viewing a movie in the format of the chip. So, when you watch a film that is in 16:9 (1.85 to 1) it will fill the entire output chip (be it DLP mirrors or LCD panels). However, when you watch a film that is 2.35 to 1, which is most modern movies, the top and bottom quarter sections are only producing black bars. A real waste of resolution.
The Planar PD8150 uses very clever optical lens shift so that it utilises the entire 1080 pixels high to produce the picture, and then the lens puts it back into the correct 2.35 to 1 format for viewing.
The results are nothing short of stunning. Add to this very impressive 15000 to 1 contrast ratio and an even more impressive whisper quite 29 db noise level.
This really is a glimpse of true high end projection at what now is seriously getting to be affordable for those who really treasure there Home Cinema experience. £4400.00 is not pocket money, but neither is it a kings ransom.

Infocus 1080p projectors hit the ground running.
15/08/07 12:26
Infocus have long since offered the
finest value in projectors. They are always seen as the ones to
beat. Now the arrival of two new models, the IN81 and IN82 are
offering 1080p pictures
at a cost that will leave the other manufacturers gasping for
breath. Initial orders already well outstrip supplies.
The IN81 uses the Darkchip2© and offers 3000:1 contrast ratio. Pretty impressive stuff and probably enough combined with it's 1080p handling to make you reach for your cheque book, except.....
That except is the IN82. At £500.00 more (and we're not being blasé' about £500.00 here) get the fabulous Texas Instruments Darkchip3© with its special mirror coating giving an outstanding 4000:1 native contrast ratio. All this is achieved at a very bright 1500 Ansi-lumens. So no need to live in the dark with this projector.
Lots of other very impressive specs are available for this unit. Check them out Here

Vidikron high end vision
09/08/07 15:16
Vidikron is a name
that has been an industry great for many years, to many of you
however it may be a new one. Vidikron has always
produced items that are at the top of many people wish list, their
latest range of projectors climbs even higher. With their most
affordable model - the VM70 - starting at around £9000.00
they are not going to be selling in a rush, and their top model -
the VM120 - weighs in at a hefty £32,000 making it
above the range of many people pockets. However, make no mistake,
you get exactly what you pay for. Eye popping clarity, 3 chip DLP,
full 1080p Dark Matter3 chip set and full THX certification mark
these ahead of the pack. But what really singles Vidikron out is their Cinewide system. When you watch a 2.35:1
movie on a standard chip, a third of the resolution of the panel is
wasted producing the black bars at the top and the bottom. The
Vidikron system utilises these to produce
the picture itself and then uses a clever lens system to re-size
the the picture back to its correct format. Have a read of the site
to understand it better, but the results are simply stunning. If
you feel yourself reaching for your cheque book then give us a call
and we can arrange a demonstration for you.

D-ILA technology gets up with the big boys
17/07/07 10:15
D-ILA is a technology that has proved
itself to be excellent and has always lingered on the peripheral of
the home cinema market. Never quite getting it right on all counts.
But the new JVC HD-1 is nothing short of
breathtaking. It offers a glimpse of real high end projection and
even a touch of CRT projection depth. Full 1080p compliant, amazing
contrast and a great range of throw ratios within the one
adjustment of the lens are just a couple of its super plus points.
It's a real treat for cinema fans and we're ready to install it now
just for you.
